Bullying & Abuse

Many people have suffered from maltreatment in their lives in the form of bullying and abuse.  Bullying and abuse is often perpetrated by people that we know and should be able to trust such as partners, parents, friends, relatives, managers and teachers.

Bullying and abuse can be psychological, emotional, physical, sexual or any combination and often results in psychological trauma.    Even though you may well be aware of the obvious signs of psychological and emotional victimisation and abuse, sometimes when you are in the midst of it, it can be easy to miss the undercurrent of abusive behaviour.

Alternatively, we may be so accustomed to blocking out and denying our feelings and memories that they become difficult to recall and we have no idea what to do or where to start.

When we have suffered bullying or any form of abuse, our trust in others can be seriously damaged so that we do not know who we can talk to about our experiences.  We may fear that we will not be believed or that we will be judged or blamed or pitied for what has happened to us.

It is possible to heal ...

Healing is a process which happens in stages and requires courage, support, commitment and will usually involve an aspect of remembering both difficult and painful incidents and feelings.

In order for the process of your recovery to begin you need to acknowledge the detrimental  effects on your life and make an active decision to heal your wounds.

Once you have made this decision, you will probably need some professional help.

How can I help?

At A Time For You, Reiki and Counselling I can offer you a combination of therapies to help and support you during your journey towards healing.  You can benefit from counselling, Reiki, Hypnotherapy, EFT - a very effective form of energy psychology and Matrix Reimprinting (using EFT).

When you first begin to deal with issues around bullying and abuse you may feel that your life has been thrown into utter chaos. You may have intrusive thoughts about your abuse issues and even feel that you are going crazy.  Please be reassured that you will feel supported through this stage of healing and feel enabled to talk about your experiences confidentially.  I will explain to you and normalise this extremely distressing stage and the other stages that are also part of the process.

You may even doubt your own memory, feelings and perceptions of your abuse or deny how bad they were.  Coming to believe in the reality of what has happened to you and how much it has wounded you can stir up powerful emotions, memories, and flashbacks which can feel scary.

Unlike more traditional counselling services which help to process and release difficult emotions by talking about problems, I am also able to offer other therapies and techniques which I can explain to you and when appropriate, help you to release difficult emotions and trauma as we work through the healing process together.

Reiki can help you deal with difficult feelings

If you have blocked out or "disassociated" from what happened to you during the abuse that happened to you, you may find yourself talking as if it happened to somebody else and you may not be able to get in touch with your emotions about it.  At other times you can feel that you are all "talked out" yet feel stuck.

Painful memories, feelings and thoughts that you have not been able to talk about, process emotionally or let go of are stored as energetic disruptions to the flow of your vital life force energy. Reiki offers a gentle way of releasing these energetic disruptions, thereby helping to let go and release the memories and feelings that haunt you.

Clients working on abuse issues report feel cocooned in a safe, healing space where emotions, memories, flashbacks, physical sensations can be released.  Over time you may become tuned in to the Reiki energy as it flows from me to you and around your body helping to increase your self awareness and your ability to re-connect to your own body as you move towards wholeness and an improved sense of wellbeing.

EFT, Matrix Reimprinting and Hypnotherapy can be useful too!

Unfortunately, traditional counselling can be ineffective with clients who have suffered bullying and abuse as talking about a traumatic experience over and over again can make it feel as if the memory is becoming more and more ingrained and heighten the traumatic feelings rather than release them.

EFT can often work when nothing else seems to and I like to follow any EFT work that we do with some Reiki.  EFT can release the underlying difficult emotions along with the energy blocks from the meridians leading to quick psychological shifts.

Matrix Reimprinting (using EFT) can be very effective as the trauma we have suffered is a doorway into the Matrix where we can release the feelings without going into detail again.

During the process of using Matrix Reimprinting I can help you to clear the trauma of the original experience, find resolution and create a new picture in your field.  This helps you to change your point of attraction.  If you create new positive fields the right people will come into your life and it will begin to change.

There is also a specific technique that can be used during Hypnotherapy (with Reiki) that can help you to transform specific traumatic memories.

I am an accredited and registered Counsellor & Psychotherapist with the BACP with over 14 years experience of working with individuals, couples and therapeutic groups in a variety of settings.

Counselling is always at the heart of what I do, but by incorporating other treatments and techniques I can offer my own unique combination of therapies to effectively help clients to feel better on all levels.
