Not everyone who comes to see me for therapy has an issue.  Some people are just curious to understand themselves better. 


Therapy could be called "Self Awareness Training" as it is very useful to help us to gain a clear and realistic perception of who we are.


Self-awareness is not about uncovering a deep, dark secret about yourself, but understanding who you are, why you do what you to, how you do it, and the impact this has on others.

Sometimes people come along because they just feel that their lives are unbalanced.  They may be working too much or perhaps spend too much time at home or just lacking energy and motivation. 


Therapy can be an enjoyable process and offers a safe space to focus on yourself and to have some time just for you.  One of the greatest benefits to having therapy is achieving personal growth and a greater balance and harmony in your life.

Why improve Self Awareness?


Self-awareness is directly related to both emotional intelligence and success.  It allows us to understand our beliefs, our values and our needs.  It helps us to and to understand other people and how we respond to situations and people in the  moment.  Self-awareness  helps us to make positive behavioural changes that can lead to greater interpersonal success and an improved well being. 

Gaining increased self understanding enables us to create achievable goals because we can understand and therefore consider our strengths, our weaknesses, and what motivates and drives us.  We are more able to guide ourselves down the right path by choosing to pursue the opportunities that are best for us. 

I am an accredited and registered Counsellor & Psychotherapist with the BACP with over 14 years experience of working with individuals, couples and therapeutic groups in a variety of settings. 

Counselling is always at the heart of what I do, but by incorporating other treatments and techniques I can offer my own unique combination of therapies to effectively help clients to feel better on all levels.

How I can help you


The process of personal therapy is essentially a journey of self-discovery and personal growth.  It offers you the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of every aspect of yourself in order to achieve your fullest potential.   I will be able to join you for part of the way of your never ending journey of personal growth. My integrative approach to therapy will help you to understand your thoughts, feelings, decisions, actions, roles, relationships, and so on, so that you can go through life with a clearer and more conscious awareness and understanding of yourself and others. Self discovery is the foundation of emotional, physical, intellectual, and spiritual health, success and happiness.


During our time together, you may enjoy learning some aspects of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, known as CBT which would help you gain more awareness in how you think, how you feel (both emotionally and physically), how you behave and also help you to identify your needs, your values and the beliefs that you hold about yourself, other people and the world.  We need to understand these aspects of ourselves before we can make conscious changes.  

Have the opportunity to talk about whatever you want to


How often do we get to really talk about ourselves freely and feel really listened to and valued? Unfortunately, it's not an experience we have often enough.   Other people are so often too caught up in their own internal worlds to be able to really listen to us - active listening is a skill that not many people have.  This means that we can feel that our feelings are unimportant or that talking about ourselves will be seen as tiresome and we may fear being disliked or rejected.


Feeling encouraged to talk about whatever you want to and feeling accepted and valued is a very powerful experience which my clients enjoy.  The  experience of being listened to empathically and non judgmentally helps us to feel valued as people and that our feelings, wants and needs are important.  Once we value those, we begin to value ourselves.  When we value ourselves, we feel more confident and assertive which fosters personal growth. 

Personal growth is the ongoing process of understanding and developing oneself in order to achieve one's fullest potential. Personal development is a vital part in a person's growth, maturity, success and happiness. It is the foundation of emotional, physical, intellectual, and spiritual health.

Change your version of reality to a more positive one

How we think creates our own  version of reality so if we think negatively we will experience a negative one.  With help, you will be able to recognise any faulty thinking patterns which are inadvertently reinforcing negative beliefs and re-creating negative experiences.  Once you learn how to challenge them effectively, how you feel and how you act will feel more positive. 


The difference between reading any of the many available self help books and coming for personal therapy is that my presence will help you to challenge aspects of yourself in a positive way.  By gaining an in-depth understanding of you and reflecting this back to you, you will be offered the opportunity to gain a different perspective and to change your version of reality to a more positive one.
